Last month I had the honor of ordaining Lt. William S. Riley, USN, to the diaconate and priesthood in Durham, North Carolina, at St. Gregory the Great Anglican Mission, a parish church of the Anglican Church in America. Father Riley serves as Chaplain to the Marines at the Air Base in Cherry Point, North Carolina.
I also attended the meeting of the Common Cause Partners as the official Observer for the Federation of Anglican Churches in America (FACA). It was good to be with Bishop Bob Duncan, Bishop Keith Ackerman, Bishop Bill Atwood, and others with whom I have close relationships and with whom I have shared many a meeting of Anglican leaders in the past. There are many common concerns we all have in light of the present and future of the Anglican expression of our faith, but there are elements of respectful disagreement which we all know need to be dealt with. Our Lord prayed that "all be one." I see the work of Common Cause as part of such a fulfillment as we prayerfully submit to one another laying aside passion and prejudices that often color our thinking, so that we are centered upon what our sovereign Lord wills for His Church. FACA will discuss and vote on whether it becomes a Common Cause Partner later in the year.
This month I will attend the Annual Meeting of The National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces in Alexandria, Virginia. This will be my third meeting with NCMAF, an opportunity for the Endorsers of many churches and jurisdictions to hear from the Chiefs of Chaplains of the various branches of our Armed Forces about their goals and concerns for the military chaplains under our care.
I have been asked by Bishop Campese to confirm some of the members of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Allentown, a relatively new parish led by Father Joseph Falzone who was formerly the Rector of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Whitehall. |
