Home Serve Missions
|
The Extra-Parochial Giving 2007 list of recipients is displayed in the table below with a succinct description of each mission activity included in the “Mission Outreach of the Church of the Good Shepherd” The recipients have traditionally been determined by the Vestry. In the past two years with increased interest by the parish with “reaching out,” especially after Hurricane Katrina and the formation of the Disaster Response Project Committee, the Rector has encouraged the DRP to expand its scope to be a more comprehensive lay Missions Committee. The Committee for the past two years has prepared the list of Extra-Parochial Giving recipients for the Vestry’s approval.
Three of the most recent outreach projects of the Parish have been:
- Hurricane Relief – Fr. Jerry Kramer and the Free Church of the Annunciation, New Orleans, Louisiana (see “Latest News from Fr. Jerry & Annunciation”). Good Shepherd has been raising funds in their support through a variety of events and through the Outreach Budget.
- Larry and Betty Colletta have been serving In Cochabamba, Bolivia with the South American Missionary Society. They have been serving there for the past 3 years and Good Shepherd is supporting them through the Outreach Budget. (for the latest news of the Collettas see the “Colletta’s Cochabamba Charla” or “chat.”
- The Youth of the Parish are in the midst of project with Heifer International. They have raised over $1,000.00 to purchase livestock to be given to families in need throughout the world. Heifer provides the animals and the training to help impoverished families to become more self-reliant.
